Israel's chief of staff to visit Washington for high-level talks
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir will fly to Washington next week for a series of meetings.
The visit will take place at the invitation of the Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Dan Caine, and is expected to last several days, Caliber.Az reports via Israeli media.
This will be Zamir’s first trip to the United States since his appointment as IDF Chief of Staff.
The agenda includes a range of issues, among them the situation in the Gaza Strip and the next phases of the agreement, developments in Lebanon, and U.S.–Israeli coordination amid what both sides view as unsatisfactory progress in Hezbollah’s disarmament.
Another key item is the alignment of U.S. and Israeli positions on Iran.
Sources familiar with Zamir’s preparations note that events in the Middle East are unfolding rapidly, which could lead to changes in the timing of the visit.
