Media: Board of Peace expected to meet in Cyprus
Representatives from multiple bodies involved in the US-led international “Board of Peace” overseeing postwar arrangements in Gaza are expected to meet at a resort in Cyprus next week, according to The Times of Israel.
The gathering is intended to bring together members of the initiative’s executive council, representatives of the Palestinian committee administering the Gaza Strip, and the Office of the High Representative, led by former UN envoy Nickolay Mladenov, who serves as the Board’s on-the-ground coordinator.
Citing an Arab diplomat from a mediating country and a Palestinian official familiar with the discussions, The Times of Israel reported that the meeting is intended as an opportunity to “reset” and “recalibrate” coordination efforts after what participants described as limited progress over the past six months.
The sources said the Cyprus meeting would also allow the committee to convene outside Cairo, where previous discussions have been held, and address internal coordination challenges among the participating parties.
However, some participants reportedly expressed concern over the optics of holding talks at a resort location while humanitarian conditions in Gaza remain severe. A Palestinian official said the guest list was subsequently reduced to mitigate sensitivities.
Additionally, The Cyprus Mail said it sought confirmation, while Cypriot government spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis stated he had no knowledge of any such meeting plan.
