Media: Syrian president may visit Ankara during NATO summit
23 June 2026 18:16
Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa may travel to Ankara during next month’s NATO summit, according to Bloomberg, which reported that the visit would not be formally linked to the gathering.
Sources cited by the agency said any potential trip would be separate from the alliance meeting, although discussions could take place on the sidelines covering regional security, counter-terrorism efforts and Syria’s reconstruction.
The Turkish government and Syria’s information ministry declined to comment on the report.
The 36th NATO summit is due to be held on July 7–8 at the Presidential Complex in Beştepe, Ankara. Türkiye last hosted a NATO summit in Istanbul in 2004.
