Israel’s Knesset describes Trump as "best friend that Israel ever had in White House”

13 October 2025 15:18

On October 13, U.S. President Donald Trump received a warm welcome from Israeli lawmakers, with Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana calling him “the best friend that Israel ever had in the White House.”

“Mr. President, I would like to thank you that you granted the Knesset the honor that it is the first parliament you are visiting in your present term,” Ohana told lawmakers, prompting a standing ovation from the chamber. Trump responded briefly by standing himself, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.

As he prepared to introduce the president, Ohana made a lighthearted reference to technology, joking that the teleprompter was “working beautifully.”

His remark appeared to allude to the technical difficulties Trump faced during his recent speech at the United Nations General Assembly, when the teleprompter malfunctioned and an escalator stopped working — incidents Trump has suggested could have been sabotage.

Shifting to a more solemn tone, Ohana praised Trump’s leadership, telling the president: “Mr. President, you stand before the people of Israel, not as another American president, but as a giant of Jewish history.”

He added, “What the world needs now are more leaders who are brave, resolute, strong and bold. The world needs more Trumps.”

Trump was set to address the Knesset shortly after the remarks, marking a significant moment in U.S.–Israel relations during his current term in office.
