Israel says no ceasefire in Lebanon as operations continue
Israel’s Defence Minister, Israel Katz, said the Israel Defence Forces will continue military operations in Lebanon, stressing that no ceasefire is currently in place.
His remarks come despite an earlier agreement to suspend strikes on the Dahiya district of Beirut.
“The actions of the IDF inside Lebanon will continue in any case,” Katz said.
He warned that continued shelling of Israeli population centres could trigger a broader escalation, including the evacuation of Beirut’s southern suburbs and the launch of intensified strikes.
According to Katz, Israeli forces are continuing operations aimed at “clearing” areas south of the Litani River of infrastructure and fighters belonging to Hezbollah.
He added that the area under Israeli control in southern Lebanon currently spans approximately 600 square kilometres.
