Israel signs multi-billion-dollar deal to expand Iron Dome production VIDEO

21 November 2025 13:25

Israel’s Ministry of Defence (IMOD) has signed a multi-billion-dollar contract with Rafael Advanced Defence Systems to accelerate the production of the Iron Dome air defence system.

The agreement was confirmed on November 20 by the ministry’s Director General, Maj. Gen. (Res.) Amir Baram, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.

The signing ceremony, held at the ministry’s headquarters, was chaired by Defence Minister Israel Katz and attended by senior officials from the IMOD, the Directorate of Defence Research & Development, the U.S. Defence Attaché, and representatives from Rafael. The ministry said the deal aims to increase the supply of interceptors for both the IMOD and the Israel Defence Forces (IDF).

The contract follows negotiations involving Moshe Patel, Director of the Israel Missile Defence Organisation, U.S. Missile Defence Agency officials, and Rafael executive Shlomo Toaff. Patel stated that the agreement “will secure the continuous production of Iron Dome interceptors to protect the State of Israel.”

The contract is part of the broader $8.7 billion U.S. aid package approved in April 2024, which includes $5.2 billion allocated for Israel’s air defence systems, covering Iron Dome, David’s Sling, and a high-powered Laser Defence System currently in the final stages of development.

Iron Dome, developed with U.S. support, is designed to intercept short- and medium-range rockets, missiles, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). According to the IMOD, the system “has exhibited outstanding performance with remarkable interception rates” during recent conflicts, providing protection to civilian areas.

Rafael serves as the prime contractor, collaborating with ELTA Systems, a division of Israel Aerospace Industries, and mPrest. The ministry highlighted that ongoing cooperation with the U.S. Missile Defence Agency remains central to Israel’s multi-layered defence strategy, supporting systems such as David’s Sling and Arrow while maintaining long-term technological advantages.
