Israel strikes Maher al-Assad’s villa near Damascus
The Israeli Air Force targeted the villa of Maher al-Assad, brother of President Bashar al-Assad, near Yarfur, Damascus, but there were no reported casualties.
Maher, who leads the Syrian Army’s 4th Division, was allegedly in a meeting with Iranian officials at the time, Caliber.Az reports via Syrian media.
Notably, Maher Assad, the younger brother of Assad, is regarded as one of the key figures in the Iranian faction within the hierarchy of the Syrian leadership and is closely associated with Lebanese Hezbollah.
According to sources, the villa, frequently visited by leaders of Hezbollah and the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, was the subject of warning messages sent to Maher al-Assad, cautioning that any transfer of weapons from the 4th Division's stockpile to Lebanon would be targeted by Israeli strikes.
