Israel strikes southern Lebanon, killing Hezbollah operative

29 October 2025 13:49

On October 14, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) carried out a strike in southern Lebanon that killed Hussein Ali Tohmeh, a Hezbollah member reportedly responsible for logistical support in the Qana area.

Israeli authorities said Tohmeh was involved in transferring weapons and rebuilding Hezbollah’s military capabilities in the region, Caliber.Az reports per IDF.

His actions they described as violating existing understandings between Israel and Lebanon.

Israeli forces have increased air and drone strikes across southern and eastern Lebanon in recent weeks, killing several Hezbollah operatives and targeting the group’s weapons and infrastructure. IDF says around 330 Hezbollah members have been killed since a ceasefire took effect nearly a year ago.

Among those recently killed were Ali Hussein al‑Musawi, described by Israeli officials as a weapons smuggler active in the Bekaa Valley, and Muhammad Akram Arabiya, a commander in Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Force. According to the IDF, the strikes are part of ongoing efforts to prevent Hezbollah from rebuilding its military capabilities.

Hezbollah deputy leader Naim Qassem, speaking to the group’s Al‑Manar TV, acknowledged the possibility of renewed fighting, saying: “The possibility of war exists, but it is not certain.”

He warned that the group would respond if attacked, while urging Israel to adhere to the ceasefire. Qassem also defended Hezbollah’s previous participation in fighting near Gaza, saying it was necessary to protect the border and the movement itself.
