Israel targets Palestinian Islamic Jihad military chief in Iran
The Israel Defence Forces said it carried out a strike in Iran targeting Akram al-Ajouri, the head of the military wing of Palestinian Islamic Jihad.
According to ABC News, an Israeli military official told journalists during a briefing: “We struck Akram al-Ajouri,” adding that the “senior Islamic Jihad commander in the Gaza Strip” had been residing in Iran. The official noted that his death has not been confirmed.
Palestinian Islamic Jihad, which operates in the occupied West Bank and the Gaza Strip and is allied with Hamas, took part in the October 7, 2023, attack on Israel that triggered the war in Gaza.
The reported strike comes amid a series of Israeli operations in recent hours, which Israeli authorities say have resulted in the deaths of senior Iranian government figures.
