On February 28, Israel and the United States conducted a series of strikes on Iranian territory. Major cities and military infrastructure were targeted, including military bases and command centres. In response, Iran launched missile attacks on Israeli territory, as well as on several other countries in the region — including targets and airspace in the UAE, Jordan, Iraq, and Syria.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed responsibility for the April 7 operation, explaining that the intended target was a senior Iranian commander, while acknowledging that the synagogue suffered unintended damage during the attack.

Responding to an inquiry from The Times of Israel, the military clarified that the strike had been aimed at a high-ranking Iranian military figure.

The CIA reportedly used a secret device in Iran to rescue a pilot shot down over the country. The technology, called “Ghost Murmur”, employs long-range quantum magnetometry to detect the electromagnetic signature of a human heartbeat, according to The New York Post, citing sources.

The system compares the data with AI-based software to isolate the heartbeat signal from background noise.

“Ghost Murmur” was deployed in the field for the first time during this rescue operation, a fact hinted at by Donald Trump and John Ratcliffe, the report says.

“It’s like hearing a voice in a stadium, except the stadium is a thousand square miles of desert. In the right conditions, if your heart is beating, we will find you,” said a source familiar with the program.

21:47

Iran has categorically rejected the idea of a temporary ceasefire, the country’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Amir Saeid Iravani has stated, according to Reuters.

21:20

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated that he does not approve of actions leading to the complete destruction of Iran, but also does not support Iran’s retaliatory stance toward countries in the region.

According to Haber Global, he made these remarks during a phone conversation with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez.

“President Erdoğan said that we [Türkiye] do not approve of actions aimed at the total destruction of Iran, and we consider Iran’s position toward brotherly countries in the region to be wrong. Everyone with a conscience should strive for peace and focus on diplomacy,” the Turkish leader’s office said.

Erdoğan also noted that “unless Israel’s disregard for the law in Gaza and elsewhere is stopped, the region will continue to be in need of peace.”

“I invite all youth, cultural and artistic figures, athletes, and champions to the national campaign “Iranian Youth’s Human Chain for a Bright Tomorrow,”” Alireza Rahimi wrote on X.

“Tomorrow, Tuesday at 14:00, beside power plants across the country, with every belief and taste, we will stand hand in hand to say: Attacking public infrastructure is a war crime.”

Over the weekend, Trump said Iran had until Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET to make a deal.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that the Israeli Air Force struck bridges and railways in Iran, stating that the infrastructure was being used for military purposes by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the elite branch of Iran’s armed forces.

“Yesterday, our pilots destroyed transport planes and dozens of helicopters at an Iranian Air Force base. Today, they attacked the train tracks and bridges used by the Revolutionary Guards,” Netanyahu said in a video statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office.

According to Netanyahu, the railways were used by the IRGC to transport materials for weapons production, as well as weapons and personnel.

He emphasised that the strikes on Iranian civilian infrastructure are not aimed at the population. “And this is the central point: These actions, which I approved together with the Minister of Defence, are not intended to attack the Iranian people. On the contrary, they are intended to weaken and crush the terrorist regime that has oppressed them for 47 years,” the prime minister said.

“This is a significant blow to Iran's ability to produce petrochemical goods,” Katz stated. “We have targeted Iran’s largest petrochemical plant, and this follows a similar attack last week on their second-largest facility. Together, these plants accounted for 85% of Iran's petrochemical production.”

The attack, which has rendered both facilities non-operational, represents a multi-billion-dollar economic loss for the Iranian regime. Katz elaborated, “This strike is part of our continued strategy to weaken Iran’s economic and military capabilities.”

The first phase of the attack saw Iran's naval forces successfully strike the Israeli container ship SDN7 with a precision-guided cruise missile, causing a massive fire on board. Several strategic Israeli sites were also hit, including locations in Haifa, northern and southern Tel Aviv, chemical facilities in Beersheba, and Israeli military positions in Petah Tikva.

In a separate operation, the Iranian artillery targeted the US Navy's amphibious assault ship LHA7, which was carrying over 5,000 sailors and Marines. The vessel was forced to retreat to the southern part of the Indian Ocean following the bombardment.

In the second phase of the operation, Iranian forces targeted a joint UAE-Israeli drone manufacturing facility, along with several aircraft stationed at the Ali Al-Salem Airbase in Kuwait.

"The offensive operations by the Iranian Armed Forces and allied resistance groups against terrorist enemy targets in the region are ongoing," the IRGC statement said.

In a post on X, Netanyahu stated: “We eliminated Ashgar Bakri, commander of Unit 840 of the Quds Force, who was responsible for attacks against Jews and Israelis worldwide. Those who kill our citizens, those who spread terror against the State of Israel, those who build the Iranian axis of evil—their blood is on their own heads. We act decisively and firmly—we will reach anyone who tries to harm us. We will continue to fight with full force on all fronts until the threat is eliminated and all military objectives are achieved.”

He also confirmed the death of Majid Khademi, head of intelligence of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), describing him as a senior official who had recently assumed the position following the killing of his predecessor.

The “Imam Hussein” Division, described by Israel as a proxy of Iran’s Quds Force, has been involved in attacks on Israeli military and civilian targets and is part of the broader “Axis of Resistance” network in the region. Israeli authorities said the operation significantly degrades the division’s operational capabilities.

Khademi was appointed to his position following the elimination of Mohammad Kazemi in Operation Rising Lion. In his role, he was responsible for gathering intelligence and helping formulate a comprehensive situational assessment for the regime’s senior leadership during Operation Roaring Lion. Khademi was a key figure in the campaign, and the intelligence he gathered was used to advance and execute terrorist activities.

Additionally, Khademi worked to advance terrorist activities against the State of Israel and against Jewish targets worldwide. He also took part in attempts to target American individuals and was responsible for monitoring Iranian civilians as part of the regime’s suppression of internal protests.

His elimination joins dozens of other senior commanders of the Iranian regime who have been eliminated during the operation, and constitutes another significant blow to the IRGC’s command-and-control systems and its ability to conduct terrorist operations against the State of Israel and countries worldwide,” the IDF said.

Prior to each of the strikes, steps were taken in order to mitigate harm to civilians as much as possible, including the use of precise munitions, aerial surveillance, and additional intelligence.

The “Oil Headquarters,” under IRGC command, sustains continuous operations and military buildup through profits from oil sales, circumventing international sanctions.

Ashrafi managed commercial operations valued at billions of dollars annually and supported the development of the IRGC’s military capabilities and its proxy organisations across the Middle East, including the Houthi regime and terrorist groups Hezbollah and Hamas.

“These activities fund the IRGC’s ballistic missile and UAV arrays, which are used to launch attacks toward the territory of the State of Israel and Gulf states, and to target oil infrastructure across the region.

His elimination follows that of Jamshid Eshaqi, commander of the Oil Headquarters of the armed forces, and constitutes an additional significant blow to the economic foundations of Iran’s security apparatus.
