Israel welcomes Ukraine’s move to label Iran’s IRGC terrorist organisation

03 February 2026 11:31

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar has welcomed Ukraine’s decision to designate Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization, praising the move as both diplomatically and morally significant.

According to Caliber.Az, Saar made the remarks in a post on the X platform.

“We appreciate the decision of Ukrainian President Zelenskyy to designate Iran’s Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist organisation. This is an important diplomatic and moral decision: Against terror. Against repression. For freedom,” he wrote.

The announcement followed a statement by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on February 2, confirming that Ukraine had officially classified the IRGC as a terrorist organisation.

“Ukraine supports people who value freedom and are truly willing to fight for it. The whole world sees what is happening in Iran, the scale of the killings and how the Iranian regime has invested heavily in spreading war and violence across the region and the world. Ukraine will not forget a single one of the thousands of Shaheds that have struck our cities and villages, our people,” Zelenskyy said in his evening address.

He added that the decision was in line with the European Union’s move to “designate one of the main organisations of the regime in Iran as terrorist – the so-called Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.”

“In Ukraine, we have already adopted such a decision and designated this organisation as terrorist. For us, this issue is closed. All terrorists in the world deserve the same treatment and condemnation – none should prevail.”

The IRGC is a powerful military branch of Iran’s executive authority, operating alongside the regular army and wielding significant political and security influence.

On January 29, the European Union recognised the IRGC as a terrorist organisation and approved additional restrictive measures against Iran in response to the suppression of protests and Tehran’s continued military support for Russia’s war against Ukraine.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said a large US naval flotilla was approaching Iran’s shores and urged Tehran to immediately enter negotiations to reach a deal on its nuclear programme.
