Israeli Air Force cancels overseas travel for personnel amid Iran tensions

12 August 2024 21:06

Amid escalating tensions with Iran and Hezbollah, the Israeli Air Force has suspended all overseas vacations for its permanent staff.

The decision, made by Israeli Air Force Commander Major General Tomer Bar, follows a recent assessment of the security situation, Caliber.Az reports via Israeli media.

This move comes as Israel remains on high alert due to the potential threats from Iran and Hezbollah, and after the Pentagon deployed the USS Georgia, a ballistic missile submarine, to the Middle East, alongside the expedited arrival of the aircraft carrier Lincoln.

The decision applies to career offices and non-commissioned officers, not conscripts.

Despite the heightened security concerns, IDF spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari confirmed that there are currently no changes to public safety guidelines issued by the Home Front Command.

The region has seen increased tensions following the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran on July 31, and Hezbollah commander Fouad Shukr in Beirut on July 30, with both incidents leading to threats of retaliation from Iran and Hezbollah.

The situation unfolds as Israel continues its military offensive in Gaza, which has resulted in significant casualties following Hamas's attack on October 7 last year.
