Israeli army claims elimination of Hezbollah commander in Lebanon

08 October 2024 11:25

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced the elimination of Suhail Hussein Husseini, a commander responsible for Hezbollah’s headquarters in Lebanon, which oversees the distribution of arms among the group’s various units.

The IDF press service confirmed the targeted strike, according to Caliber.Az.

"Yesterday, the Israeli Air Force carried out a precise intelligence-based strike in the Beirut area, killing Suheil Hussein Husseini, the commander of Hezbollah’s headquarters. This headquarters manages Hezbollah’s logistics and is responsible for budgeting and overseeing the group’s various units. Husseini played a key role in transferring weapons from Iran to Hezbollah and in distributing advanced arms among Hezbollah’s units," the army’s statement read.

Husseini was also involved in the development of military plans and other special operations for the organization, according to the IDF.

Israel has been conducting a ground operation against Hezbollah forces in southern Lebanon since October 1 and continues to carry out airstrikes. Over 2,000 people, including key leaders of the Shiite group, have been killed in Lebanon, and more than 90,000 have been displaced. Despite these efforts, Hezbollah continues to engage in ground combat and launch rocket attacks on Israeli territory.

Shortly after reports of Husseini's elimination, an interview with IDF Maj.-Gen. Guy Tzur was published by 103FM, where he said that "despite the impressive assassinations, Israel failed in one thing: military action must come with political goals.

Regarding the Hezbollah leader's elimination, Tzur said that he is "not a supporter of any individual assassination, but what happened here is the chain of assassinations that is destroying their entire chain of command, and it must continue."
