Israeli army launches new ground operation in northern Gaza

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) initiated a new ground operation in Jabaliya, northern Gaza, last night, targeting what they describe as Hamas operatives and infrastructure in the area. 

According to military sources, the IDF's 162nd Division, supported by the 401st and 460th armored brigades, encircled Jabaliya overnight as part of their offensive, Caliber.Az reports, citing Israeli media.

The operation follows intelligence reports indicating a resurgence of Hamas activities in Jabaliya. As Israeli troops entered the area, they conducted a series of airstrikes and artillery shelling, targeting numerous Hamas sites, including weapon depots, tunnels, and operational cells.

“The operation will continue as long as necessary, while systematically striking and thoroughly destroying the terror infrastructure in the area,” the IDF stated in a press release.

The 162nd Division had previously operated in Rafah and the Philadelphi Corridor, which borders Egypt and Gaza, for five months before transferring control of that area to the IDF’s Gaza Division. The ongoing military efforts underscore Israel’s commitment to dismantling Hamas's operational capabilities in the region.
