Israeli army reports attempted attack on car at checkpoint near Jerusalem
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported an attempted attack on a vehicle near a checkpoint in a tunnel adjacent to Jerusalem.
“A short while ago, a report was received regarding an attempted ramming near the tunnel checkpoint adjacent to Jerusalem,” the army said on Telegram, as cited by Caliber.Az.
The IDF reported no injuries as a result of the attack.
“IDF soldiers began a pursuit after the terrorist,” the army noted.
Meanwhile, Israel National News describes such attacks as “terrorist ramming attempts” where "the driver tried to run over police and soldiers at the tunnel checkpoint before fleeing the scene, and security forces opened fire."
Such attacks are part of a pattern of individual assailants using vehicles against security personnel and civilians in and around West Bank checkpoints over the last several years. These incidents often occur amid heightened tensions tied to the broader Israeli–Palestinian conflict, including the wave of violence since the 2023 Gaza war period.
