Israeli attack on Gaza press tent kills five Al Jazeera journalists

Five journalists of the Qatar-based global media company Al Jazeera, including correspondent Anas al-Sharif, were killed in an Israeli strike on a press tent outside Gaza City’s al-Shifa Hospital.

Al-Sharif was killed alongside four colleagues in a targeted Israeli attack on the city late evening on August 10, Caliber.Az reports, citing the media company.

The strike, which occurred outside the main gate of Gaza City’s al-Shifa Hospital, claimed the lives of seven people in total. Among the dead were Al Jazeera correspondent Mohammed Qreiqeh and camera operators Ibrahim Zaher, Mohammed Noufal, and Moamen Aliwa.

Al Jazeera reports that since the start of the Israeli bombardment, more than 200 reporters and media workers have been killed, including several Al Jazeera journalists and their relatives.

The Israeli military claims that 28-year-old al-Sharif led a terrorist cell of the Hamas movement. According to the IDF, he was "responsible for rocket attacks" targeting Israeli civilians and military sites, and that his cooperation with Al Jazeera served as a cover for these activities.

The IDF press service also stated that before launching the attack on Gaza, the army "took measures to reduce harm to the civilian population."
