Israeli authorities charge man with allegedly plotting attack on minister

21 July 2026 17:39

Israeli police and the Shin Bet security service have arrested a 29-year-old man from Nazareth on suspicion of involvement in terrorism-related activities, authorities said.

According to Israeli police and the Shin Bet, the suspect, identified as Muhammad Awad, allegedly contacted members of Hamas with the aim of joining the group and obtaining funding to prepare a terrorist attack, Caliber.Az reports.

Investigators also allege that Awad was planning an attack on Israel's Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir. Authorities said he has been formally charged.

Israeli security services said they treat any involvement by Israeli citizens in activities that threaten the country's security or its residents with the utmost seriousness.
