Israeli consul in NY: Trump, Netanyahu deserve Nobel Peace Prize
Israel’s Consul General in New York, Ofir Akunis, has called for US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.
He made the remarks during an interview with Fox News on March 3, Caliber.Az reports.
Akunis drew a parallel between Trump and Netanyahu’s efforts regarding Iran and the historic 1979 peace agreement between Israel and Egypt.
At the time, Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin and Egyptian President Anwar Sadat signed a treaty that ended the war between the two countries, for which they were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
“I don’t know if President Trump is watching us right now, but I think that President Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu deserve the Nobel Peace Prize like Menachem Begin and Anwar Sadat received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979. I suppose, I hope that President Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu will receive the Nobel Peace Prize next year. They deserve it,” Akunis said.
