Israeli fighter jets fly low over Beirut

Israeli Air Force fighter jets entered Beirut’s airspace and flew over the city at low altitude on several occasions, according to reports.

The aircraft carried out what appeared to be simulated air raids, Russian media reports, citing a source in Lebanon’s civil defence service.

“The hostile aircraft simulated an air raid. They broke the sound barrier over the capital and southern suburbs, which caused loud sonic booms,” the source said.

According to the same source, the presence of low-flying jets in the first half of the day caused panic among residents, with streets in the city reportedly emptying quickly.

The incident comes days after Israeli strikes on sites belonging to Hezbollah in Beirut and other cities on April 8, which killed 357 people and injured a further 1,223.
