Israeli FM: We don't promise that this will be "last war" PHOTO

01 April 2026 16:47

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar has said that Israel has “removed the threat of elimination” from Iran and its regional allies following recent security decisions and military actions, while stressing that the country must remain prepared for future conflict.

Speaking on the eve of Passover on X, Saar framed the moment as one of national reflection, linking the Jewish festival of freedom to Israel’s modern statehood and security doctrine.

He argued that “there is no freedom without the willingness to defend it,” underscoring what he described as a permanent security burden since Israel’s founding.

Saar said Israel has faced continuous threats since its establishment and highlighted what he characterised as long-standing hostile intent from Iran, including both conventional military plans involving ballistic missiles and proxy forces, as well as efforts to develop nuclear capabilities. He claimed intelligence gathered after the October 7, 2023, attacks had confirmed coordinated plans aimed at Israel’s destruction.

Referring to Israeli decision-making in June 2025 and February 2026 under the security cabinet led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Saar said those steps were intended to neutralise existential threats. He added that while risks were involved, the alternative would have left Israel in an untenable position.

"We don't promise that this will be the 'last war.' We'll need, in the future too, to remain vigilant against the schemes of our enemies. But had we not chosen to act against existential threats and had the IDF and other security forces not carried out these decisions in an inspiring manner, we would've left Israel in an impossible situation," he stressed.

“Today, we can say: we’ve removed the threat of elimination,” Saar said, while cautioning that adversaries remain and that vigilance is still required. He added that Israel must continue strengthening its military, diplomatic, economic and technological capabilities to preserve its security advantage.

Saar rejected the notion that the country could expect a definitive end to conflict, noting that Israel will need to remain on guard against future threats. “Reality is dynamic, not static,” he said, emphasising that deterrence depends on both capability and resolve.
