Israeli forces conduct security operation in West Bank PHOTO

Israeli security forces carried out an overnight operation in the Jabal Johar area of the occupied West Bank city of Hebron on January 22. 

The operation involved the Israel Defence Forces (IDF), the Israel Security Agency (ISA), Israel Border Police, Israel Police, Caliber.Az reports via IDF.

Authorities said the operation aimed to dismantle illegal weapons sites and enhance security in the area. Around 350 structures were searched, resulting in the arrest of 14 individuals wanted in connection with suspected criminal activity and possession of weapons.

Israeli forces also seized eight firearms, including M4 and M16 rifles and handguns, as well as dozens of knives and other weapons.

Israeli officials stated that the IDF and ISA continue to operate to prevent attacks and maintain the safety of residents in the area and across Israel.

On January 19, Israeli forces launched a multi-day operation in the southern West Bank city of Hebron, concentrating on the Jabal Johar area, the army said. The military warned that activity in the region would increase during the operation.

Local witnesses reported that Israeli troops sealed off southern Hebron, installed iron barriers at city entrances, and deployed soldiers and armoured vehicles. Following raids on several homes, seven Palestinians, including a 13-year-old, were detained, WAFA reported, with property confiscated during searches. Checkpoints were also set up across the city.

Since October 2023, Israeli forces and settlers have killed at least 1,107 Palestinians, injured nearly 11,000, and detained roughly 21,000 in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem. In July 2025, the International Court of Justice ruled Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories illegal and called for the evacuation of all settlements.
