Israeli forces detain suspect after vehicle ramming attempt in West Bank

Israeli military forces have detained a Palestinian suspect after an apparent vehicle-ramming attempt near the village of Adoraim in the southern West Bank, the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) said.

According to the IDF, the suspect accelerated his vehicle and deliberately collided with an Israeli military vehicle carrying soldiers in the area, which falls under the Judea Brigade’s area of responsibility.

The soldiers at the scene stopped and arrested the suspect. He was later handed over to Israel’s domestic security agency, Shin Bet, for questioning.

Israeli forces have since imposed road closures and carried out security checks in the surrounding area.

The military said no Israeli soldiers were injured in the incident.

On December 25, an Israeli reserve soldier was suspended after footage circulated by Palestinian media appeared to show him driving an all-terrain vehicle into a Palestinian man kneeling in prayer on the roadside near the village of Deir Jarir, north of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank.

IDF confirmed that the individual seen in the video was a reservist. The military said his weapon was confiscated and his reserve service was suspended pending further investigation.

The silent footage shows the Palestinian being knocked to the ground before the rider dismounts, shouts at him and gestures for him to leave the area. The soldier is then seen confronting the driver of a Palestinian taxi before riding away.
