Israeli landing attempt triggers clashes in Hezbollah stronghold
Clashes broke out after Israel attempted to carry out a landing operation near the border between Lebanon and Syria, according to Lebanese state media.
The developments were reported by ABC News, citing local sources.
Fighters from the Lebanese group Hezbollah said their members were involved in the fighting. The Israel Defence Forces have not yet issued any comment on the reported operation.
If confirmed, the raid would represent the largest Israeli incursion into Lebanese territory since November 2024, when Israeli special forces detained a Hezbollah militant, Imad Amhaz, in the northern Lebanese city of Batroun.
Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency reported that “clashes are taking place along the eastern mountain ridge on the Lebanese-Syrian border… with the aim of repelling attempts at an Israeli landing.”
According to the agency, the incident occurred in Nabi Chit, located in the eastern Baalbek District, an area where Hezbollah maintains particularly strong influence.
