Israeli media: Revised draft resolution calls on Hamas to accept Biden's plan
On June 10, the US delegation to the UN presented a revised draft resolution in preparation for a vote to be held in the Security Council on June 10.
The proposal calls on Hamas to accept the scheme presented by US President Joe Biden in a speech earlier this month, noting that Israel has already agreed to it. The earlier draft used slightly different wording and said the proposal was only "acceptable" to Israel, according to Detaly.co.il.
The proposal detailed the details of the plan in line with the steps outlined by President Biden. There are two major changes in the new draft from the previous one, in addition to Israel's explicit agreement.
First, the proposal now explicitly states that if the parties do not reach an agreement within six weeks of the first phase, they will continue to refrain from resuming hostilities while negotiations continue.
Another change relates to the buffer zone. The previous proposal explicitly stated that the Security Council rejected any attempt to establish a buffer zone, official or unofficial, in the Gaza Strip, as well as any attempt to change the territory of the Strip or its demography.
Now the wording is slightly different and indicates opposition to any attempt to change the demography of the Gaza Strip or reduce its area. The changes were made after Israel expressed disagreement with the previous version published on 6 June.
