Israeli military claims "path to Tehran paved"
The Israeli military leadership stated on June 14 that “the way to Tehran has been paved," signaling a potential escalation in the ongoing conflict with Iran.
The statement, issued by IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir and Israeli Air Force chief Maj. Gen. Tomer Bar, follows overnight airstrikes by the Israeli Air Force (IAF), which reportedly disabled Iranian air defense systems around Tehran, allowing Israel greater operational freedom in Iranian airspace, Caliber.Az reports per Israeli media.
“According to the plans, air force fighter jets will begin to carry out strikes on targets in Tehran,” the military adds.
According to the IDF, the targeted strikes are part of broader military plans, with the initial wave focusing on enabling further aerial operations above the Iranian capital. Iranian state-linked Fars News Agency reported that two projectiles struck Tehran’s Mehrabad Airport—located near sensitive military and leadership installations. Iranian media sources confirmed visible flames and explosions in the vicinity of the airport, which also houses an air force base.
Following the attack, authorities suspended all flights at Mehrabad.
