Israeli minister accuses EU’s high rep of siding with terrorists
Israeli Finance Minister, leader of the far-right "Religious Zionism" party Bezalel Smotrich has accused EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell of misleading the public by drawing parallels between Israel's operation in Gaza and the actions of Nazi Germany.
Smotrich expressed this view on his X account in response to Borrell's call for sanctions against him for criticizing the idea of a ceasefire, Caliber.Az reports citing the Russian media.
"His [Borrell's] words are a clear and dangerous indication that he sides with terror, and there's no doubt that he is indifferent to the Palestinian people. If Borrell truly cared about the Palestinians, he would oppose the wall Egypt has built around Gaza to imprison its residents. He would support those in Gaza trying to escape Hamas' brutality and seek a new, safe life in the EU," Smotrich wrote.
He added that Israel is fighting against Hamas to defend Western values.
Smotrich is convinced that Israel is standing against barbarians and the 'axis of evil' represented by Iran.
"Europe will be ashamed of Borrell and the double standards that he and many of his friends apply to Israel, siding with real terrorists. Borrell has clearly chosen the wrong side of history," the Israeli minister added.
Earlier, Israel unveiled a key obstacle to reaching a deal on the release of hostages and a ceasefire in Gaza.
