Israeli official criticises Polish president’s comments on Holocaust

02 February 2026 12:36

Dmitry Trapior, leader of the Israeli anti-fascist movement, has sharply criticised Polish President Karol Nawrocki for statements suggesting Soviet involvement in the Holocaust.

In an interview with Russia's state-run RIA Novosti, Trapior said that such remarks insult both the memory of Holocaust victims and the Soviet soldiers who fought against Nazi Germany, and that they reflect a lack of historical accuracy.

Trapior rejected what he described as attempts to shift responsibility for the Holocaust from Nazi Germany to the Soviet Union. He argued that Nawrocki’s claims distort history and constitute a dangerous form of historical and political revisionism. According to Trapior, the statements undermine the memory of those who suffered during the Holocaust and of the soldiers who liberated Europe from fascism.

The comments by Trapior came after Nawrocki accused the USSR of playing a role in the Holocaust, asserting that responsibility for the outbreak of World War II lay not only with Germany but also with the Soviet Union. Nawrocki claimed that the war marked the beginning of the Holocaust, implying Soviet complicity in the tragedy.
