Israeli overnight strikes kill 10, dozens more injured in Lebanon

At least ten people were killed and dozens more injured in overnight attacks across Lebanon, CNN reports via Lebanese media.

Five people, including a 15-year-old, died in an Israeli strike on the Jnah neighbourhood in southern Beirut, while three others were killed in an attack on Ain Saade, northeast of the capital, according to the National News Agency.

The agency also said an airstrike near Toul, south of Beirut, killed a husband and wife and wounded their two children, aged 9 and 15.

Israel’s military stated on April 6 that it targeted “launchers and weapons storage facilities concealed within structures and civilian infrastructure” in Lebanon. 

Since early March, Israel has been carrying out strikes and ground operations against Iran-backed Hezbollah militants in southern Lebanon. Lebanon’s health ministry reported that the death toll from these attacks has now reached 1,461 people.

Hezbollah has continued firing rockets at Israel, claiming to have carried out more than two dozen attacks on April 5 and four on April 6. By April 3, over 80 towns and villages in Lebanon had been emptied, with more than 15% of the population displaced, the health ministry said.

On April 6, eighteen far-right Israeli lawmakers, including members of the ruling Likud party, called for the military to expand its operations to destroy villages along the Lebanese border and expel their residents.
