Israeli police arrest 17 in latest protest crackdown
05 April 2026 09:18
Israeli police detained 17 people during protests in Tel Aviv, the Times of Israel reports.
A court had previously prohibited dispersing protests with fewer than 600 participants.
“Officers acted swiftly in relocating the bus to a position between buildings and evacuating the detainees to a safer location, all while risking their own lives,” police said in a statement.
Once tonight’s protest exceeded this number, police say they declared it illegal and began dispersing the crowd, leading to clashes, according to the report.
The 17 detainees were placed on a bus near Habima Square.
On April 4, hundreds of Israelis gathered at the square demanding an end to military actions in Lebanon, Iran, and the Gaza Strip.
