Israeli troops conclude Tulkarem operation, killing 7 Palestinian militants VIDEO

26 December 2024 11:59

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has concluded a two-day counterterrorism operation in the West Bank city of Tulkarem and surrounding areas, which resulted in the liquidation of seven Palestinian militants.

The operation, which began on December 24 and targeted Palestinian militant groups, also led to the neutralisation of dozens of planted mines, the arrest of suspects, and the confiscation of weapons, according to an IDF statement on Telegram, Caliber.Az reports.

Among the militants killed were Kasi Amin Ibrahim Akasha, who replaced Tariq Dush—eliminated the previous week as part of a broader IDF effort in the region—and Juama Salam Abid and Imran Harun. The operation is the latest in a series of IDF actions aimed at destabilising Palestinian militant infrastructure in Tulkarem, a city that has seen increased tensions and casualties throughout 2024.

The IDF also confirmed that Colonel Ayub Kayuf, commander of the 431st Brigade, sustained light injuries when an explosive device detonated near his armoured personnel carrier. The bomb exploded during the operation, injuring Kayuf in the arm, though the IDF described his wounds as minor.

This operation in Tulkarem follows a series of military actions by the IDF throughout the year, including an airstrike on the Tulkarem refugee camp on October 3, 2024, which marked the first such attack in the area since 2002. That strike targeted a Hamas commander and a senior member of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), killing at least 20 people, including 12 militants. The airstrike was condemned by the United Nations as unlawful, and Germany raised concerns over the civilian casualties.
