Italian PM plans to extend fuel tax cut
01 April 2026 15:08
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s government is preparing to extend a temporary fuel tax cut introduced last month, according to a senior Italian official.
Last month, Italian authorities reduced the fuel excise tax by €0.25 ($0.29) per litre to help ease the economic impact of the Middle East conflict, Caliber.Az reports, citing Bloomberg.
The measure was initially set to expire on April 7, but Meloni now intends to prolong it.
The official made it clear that Meloni was working closely with Finance Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti, discussing the allocation of necessary funds and finalising the technical details for the extension.
