Italy allocates €13 million to Ukraine for rebuilding war-hit energy infrastructure

31 December 2024 17:46

Italy has allocated €13 million to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund to assist in stabilizing the country’s war-damaged energy infrastructure.

The decision, made on the instructions of Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, comes at a critical time as attacks on Ukraine’s energy systems intensify, Caliber.Az informs referencing Italy's Foreign Ministry.

This contribution, one of the largest from a single country, aims to restore energy systems vital to millions of Ukrainians affected by the ongoing conflict. By bolstering the resilience of Ukraine’s energy sector, Italy’s support will help ensure electricity supplies in a time of growing need.

“With this contribution, Italy reaffirms its unwavering commitment to supporting Ukraine’s energy resilience,” a government statement noted. The donation also aligns with preparations for the Ukraine Recovery Conference, set to take place in Rome next July, showcasing Italy’s broader commitment to Ukraine’s reconstruction efforts.

The Ukraine Energy Support Fund has been pivotal in providing rapid assistance, including equipment urgently needed to restore critical energy supplies. Italy’s decision underscores the Fund’s effectiveness in delivering timely and impactful aid.

Even prior to the latest escalation in attacks, Ukraine’s energy sector had suffered extensive damage, highlighting the urgency of international assistance. Italy’s €13 million contribution is not only a practical response to the crisis but also a powerful message of global solidarity during a challenging period for Ukraine.
