Italy has completed the withdrawal of its armed forces from Iraq, with the last personnel involved in reconstruction work and the transportation of logistical supplies returning home, according to a statement from Italy’s Defence Ministry.
“Today marks the end of the presence of our armed forces in Iraq, with the return of the last personnel involved in reconstruction and the transportation of logistical supplies.
I thank the men and women of our armed forces who served in Iraq over the past 12 years,” Italian Defence Minister Guido Crosetto said.
Italy has thus ended its military presence in Iraq after 12 years of participation in relevant missions.
