Italy refutes supplying anti-personnel mines to Ukraine
05 January 2023 19:44
Ialian Defence Minister Guido Crosetto has flatly denied Russian claims that Rome supplied anti-personnel mines to Kyiv.
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova earlier said that Italy had supplied anti-personnel devices to Ukraine, according to ANSA.
Crosetto described these statements as completely false, unfounded and seriously denigrating Italy’s honour.
"Italy signed the [international] Mine Ban Treaty (Ottawa Treaty) on December 3, 1997, and became a State party to the Treaty on October 1, 1999," Crosetto stressed.
“Italy does not produce anti-personnel mines and does not supply them to any country, including Ukraine,” Crosetto said.
