Italy rules out involvement in war with Iran, FM Tajani tells Trump
Italian Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani has said that Italy will not take part in any war with Iran, responding to remarks by US President Donald Trump on the role of Western allies in the Iran crisis.
Speaking after Trump told Italian broadcaster La7 that the United States had “won the war with Iran” without needing assistance from EU or G7 partners, Tajani stressed that Italy had not been involved in the conflict and would not be in the future.
“We did not take part in this war, and we were not supposed to take part in it. Europe is present and is making its contribution. Italy is involved in ensuring maritime navigation in the Red Sea. But we were not, are not, and will not enter a war with Iran,” Tajani said, according to Corriere della Sera.
