Italy's embassy in Baku observes day of mourning for Azerbaijani plane crash victims

26 December 2024 19:20

Italy’s embassy in Baku has lowered its flag to half-mast in observance of the day of mourning for the victims of the Azerbaijani passenger plane crash near the Kazakh city of Aktau.

“Flags at half-mast at the Italian embassy in Baku in solidarity with the people of Azerbaijan. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of the tragic flight accident and with their families,” Caliber.Az reports, citing the embassy’s message on X.

The crash occurred on December 25, when an Embraer aircraft operated by Azerbaijan Airlines, en route from Baku to Grozny, tragically crashed near Aktau. The plane was carrying 67 people, including 37 Azerbaijanis, 16 Russians, 6 Kazakhs, and 3 Kyrgyz nationals. Sadly, 38 people lost their lives in the crash, with 29 survivors. In response, President Ilham Aliyev declared a day of mourning in Azerbaijan on December 26 to honour those lost in the tragedy.
