Italy’s Eni withdraws foreign personnel from major Iraqi oil field

The Italian energy company Eni has begun evacuating all foreign personnel from the Zubair oil field in Basra, southern Iraq, three Iraqi oil industry sources said on March 6, as Iran carries out retaliatory strikes across the region.

According to Reuters, the move involves the withdrawal of international staff working at the major oil field, though the sources stressed that the evacuation will not affect ongoing production operations.

The sources said output at the Zubair field will continue despite the removal of foreign personnel.

Separately, Iraqi oil sector sources reported that the French energy company TotalEnergies also evacuated its staff from facilities in Basra on Thursday, March 5.
