Japanese FM to discuss cooperation with Azerbaijani counterpart
Japan and Azerbaijan will engage in comprehensive discussions on both bilateral and regional matters, including cooperation in the energy sector, during Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov’s visit, Japan’s Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi has stated.
At a press briefing, he said the two sides are expected to exchange views on developments in the Middle East, the South Caucasus, and the Indo-Pacific, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
“Azerbaijan, located on the Caspian Sea and one of the world's leading producers of oil and natural gas, is currently cooperating with Japanese companies in oil field development and, given the current situation, exports crude oil to Japan,” he said.
Motegi also highlighted Azerbaijan’s assistance in ensuring the safety of Japanese citizens during the recent escalation in the Middle East, including by hosting Japanese nationals evacuated from Iran.
He further noted that Bayramov’s trip marks the first visit by an Azerbaijani foreign minister to Japan in 17 years.
Jeyhun Bayramov is on an official visit to Japan on June 9–10.
