JD Vance jokes his children may become “weird chicken people”

U.S. Vice President JD Vance has said his family has embraced a new backyard chicken-raising project at the Naval Observatory residence, joking that his children may become overly obsessed with their new flock.

Speaking in an interview with Blaze TV podcaster Allie Beth Stuckey, Vance described the installation of a chicken coop at the vice presidential residence and his long-standing interest in raising chickens.

“I have wanted chickens for a very long time,” he told Blaze TV podcaster Allie Beth Stuckey in an exclusive clip of a forthcoming interview provided to the Daily Mail.

Vance said the custom-built structure had exceeded expectations, calling it the “Taj Mahal of chicken coops.”

He also described his initial uncertainty about how engaged his children would be with the project, before noting that they quickly became enthusiastic about caring for the birds.

“It turns out they love chickens. Like almost weirdly,” he joked. “I'm worried they're going to be weird chicken people now because they obsessively want to go and hang out with the chickens and sit in the chicken coop. It stinks and there's poop everywhere.”

The vice president said the family acquired 15 baby chicks and is looking forward to them maturing and eventually laying eggs.

“They are really into them which is better than the alternative,” he said, adding that the project provides his children with a way to connect with nature while living in Washington, D.C.
