JD Vance: US eyes strong ties with Hungary under new prime minister

14 April 2026 09:43

US Vice President JD Vance has stated Washington is confident it can establish strong cooperation with Hungary’s incoming prime minister, Péter Magyar.

The VP, in an interview with Fox News, said he was confident that they would work very well with Hungary’s new prime minister.

Vance paid a visit to Hungary ahead of the elections to support the outgoing Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, whom he described as one of the few European leaders standing up to European Union bureaucracy.

“We didn’t go because we expected Viktor Orban to cruise to an election victory. We went because it was the right thing to do to stand behind a person who had stood by us for a very long time,” the vice president emphasised.
