JD Vance warns Iran: Violence will be met with violence

27 June 2026 09:29

US Vice President JD Vance warned Iran that any further attacks would be met with force, following a US military strike on Iranian territory that Washington said was carried out in response to an attack on a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz.

"Iran signed a ceasefire agreement. We have honored it. If they have disagreements about how the MOU is being applied, they can pick up the phone," Vance wrote on X page.

"But violence will be met with violence."

The comments came after the US military's Central Command (CENTCOM) said American forces had conducted a strike against targets in Iran following what it described as an Iranian attack on a Singapore-flagged merchant vessel transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

On June 25, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps attacked a Singapore-flagged cargo vessel in the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday, damaging the ship's bridge but causing no casualties.

The incident comes amid heightened tensions in the Gulf region and follows another reported attack on a vessel near the Gulf of Oman earlier this week.

Separately, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) said it had temporarily suspended its evacuation operation for ships in the Persian Gulf after reassessing security conditions following the latest maritime attack.

IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez said the pause was necessary to verify that adequate safety guarantees remained in place for vessels operating in the region. He added that while the attacked ship was not part of the IMO's evacuation programme, the safety of seafarers remained the organisation's top priority.
