Jordan declares air raid alert after Iranian missile attack VIDEO

21 July 2026 14:16

Jordan declared a large-scale air raid alert after reports of a new missile attack launched from Iran, as air defence systems were activated across parts of the country.

According to preliminary reports, air raid sirens sounded in several areas, including the Red Sea region and around the port city of Aqaba, after ballistic missiles were detected heading toward the region. Residents reported hearing a series of explosions overhead, Caliber.Az writes.

The Jordanian military said it had "neutralised" five drones targeting the kingdom. A military official quoted by the state-run Petra news agency said the drones originated from Iran and that Jordan would continue to monitor its airspace while maintaining "operational readiness" amid the ongoing threat.

The heightened security situation also caused temporary disruptions to civilian air traffic.

Jordan has come under repeated attacks in recent days as regional tensions have escalated. Iranian strikes have reportedly targeted the port city of Aqaba, near Israel's resort city of Eilat, as well as Muwaffaq Salti Air Base, which hosts US military assets.

According to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), an Iranian strike on July 21 hit a missile defence radar system and an F-15 fighter jet in Jordan.

Earlier, an Iranian missile and drone attack on Muwaffaq Salti Air Base on July 17 killed two US service members, according to US officials.
