Jordanian-Israeli border crossing to reopen to pedestrians

The Allenby Bridge Border Crossing is set to reopen to pedestrian traffic on September 21, following a deadly attack earlier in the week, Jordan’s AlMamlaka TV writes.

The crossing, which connects the West Bank with Jordan, was closed after an incident on September 18 in which two Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers were killed, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media. 

According to reports, a Jordanian national arrived at the crossing from the Jordanian side in a truck carrying humanitarian aid bound for Gaza. Upon reaching the crossing, the man reportedly opened fire on the IDF soldiers.

After his firearm appeared to malfunction, he exited the vehicle and proceeded to stab the soldiers repeatedly. Security personnel at the scene responded with gunfire, killing the assailant on the spot.

While the crossing will reopen to pedestrian traffic, it will remain closed to commercial transport until further notice.
