Jordanian princess visits Azerbaijan pavilion at COP30 in Brazil photo

During COP30, currently underway in Belém, Brazil, Nigar Arpadarai, a representative of the Azerbaijani delegation and the High-Level Climate Champion for COP29, met with Princess Dana Firas of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, at the Azerbaijan pavilion.

According to domestic media, the meeting focused on the role of culture and cultural heritage in advancing ambitious climate initiatives. Both sides emphasised that preserving cultural identity and traditional knowledge strengthens community resilience and supports sustainable development amid climate change challenges.

Arpadarai highlighted that linking culture and climate policy is crucial for the global climate agenda, particularly in the post-COP29 period, where attention has shifted toward practical solutions and transformative initiatives. Princess Dana Firas, in turn, stressed the importance of expanding international cooperation to protect cultural heritage from the effects of climate change.

The meeting, held in a constructive atmosphere, was part of a series of events at the Azerbaijan pavilion dedicated to fostering partnerships and promoting sustainable, globally impactful solutions.

COP30, held from November 10 to 21, 2025, brings together world leaders, climate experts, and policymakers to accelerate global climate action, promote sustainable solutions, and highlight urgent issues such as forest conservation, biodiversity, and climate adaptation, with a particular focus on vulnerable regions and communities.

The Amazon location underlines the conference’s emphasis on forest protection and environmental stewardship.
