Kalashnikov for first time showcases AK-19 assault rifle of new design
The Russian defence manufacturing company Kalashnikov Concern has demonstrated a new-model AK-19 assault rifle.
“The gun was developed based on the 5.45 mm AK-12 assault rifle. This is an individual small arms weapon which uses a 5.56 mm NATO calibre cartridge,” TASS reports.
The model differs from previous generations by thoughtful ergonomics, adaptation to daily use and increased shooting accuracy.
Earlier, the CEO of the Kalashnikov Concern, Vladimir Lepin, said that the combat equipment of a new generation Russian soldier will receive a fire control system. He told reporters about this.
Various types of weapons and optical devices will be integrated into the system.
According to Lepin, currently, Kalashnikov, in association with several enterprises, is finalizing technical solutions to create a promising defeat system for third-generation equipment.
The press service of the Kalashnikov concern stated that the company's overall production plan has increased by 60 per cent over the past two years, while the state defence order has been fulfilled by 100 per cent in the first six months of 2023.
The AK-19 assault rifle is an export version of the AK-12 assault rifle chambered for the 5.56x45 mm calibre cartridge, adopted by NATO countries and widely used in the world. The AK-12 is a 5.45 calibre assault rifle, the main model of individual small arms for personnel of motorized rifles and other units of the Russian Armed Forces, designed to replace the AK-74 and AK-74M assault rifles.
