Zelenskyy announces imminent call with Trump to discuss Russia, peace talks
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has confirmed that he will soon hold a phone conversation with US President Donald Trump to discuss potential pressure on Russia and the prospects for peace negotiations.
Speaking at a joint press conference in Copenhagen alongside Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, Zelenskyy responded to questions regarding his trust in Trump—particularly in the context of reports that the US president had issued a deadline to Russian President Vladimir Putin concerning possible negotiations with Ukraine, Caliber.Az reports, citing Ukrainian media.
Zelenskyy reiterated his appreciation for US support, underscoring Ukraine’s continued need for strong American assistance amid ongoing Russian aggression.
“We talked about this. He [Trump] says that through US pressure, he can force Putin to come to the negotiating table. If Putin refuses, I asked him to apply pressure on Russia using all available means,” Zelenskyy stated.
Detailing what that pressure might entail, the Ukrainian leader pointed to critical military and diplomatic measures. “And when we talk about pressure, we mean air defence, weapons supply agreements, and sanctions. He gave Putin a few weeks. That deadline is almost up. We will be speaking with the US president today or in the coming days to clarify the matter,” he added.
