Kallas says Iranian regime has killed thousands, warns of “perilous” situation
The European Union has accused Iran’s regime of killing thousands and posing a serious threat to global security, as tensions in the Middle East intensify following joint Israel-US strikes on Iran.
In a statement posted on X, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas said Iran’s ballistic missile and nuclear programmes, along with its support for armed groups, represent a significant danger to international stability. She described the current developments across the region as "perilous," Caliber.Az reports.

"Iran’s regime has killed thousands. Its ballistic missile and nuclear programmes, along with support for terror groups, pose a serious threat to global security. The EU has adopted strong sanctions against Iran and supported diplomatic solutions, including on the nuclear issue," she wrote.
Kallas noted that the EU has imposed strong sanctions on Iran and continues to support diplomatic solutions, including efforts related to the Iranian nuclear issue. She said she had spoken with Israel’s Foreign Minister and other officials in the region, adding that the EU is coordinating closely with Arab partners to explore diplomatic pathways.
She emphasised that protecting civilians and upholding international humanitarian law remain priorities for the bloc. According to Kallas, the EU’s consular network is actively assisting citizens seeking to leave affected areas, while non-essential EU personnel are being withdrawn from the region.
The EU’s Aspides naval mission remains on high alert in the Red Sea and stands ready to help keep key maritime corridors open, she added.
