Kallas surprised by US decision to withdraw troops from Germany
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has stated that she was surprised by the timing of US President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw part of the US troops from Germany.
Speaking at the European Political Community summit in Yerevan, she noted that discussions about a possible reduction of the US military presence in Europe had been ongoing for some time, but the timing of the announcement caught European partners off guard, Caliber.Az reports.
According to Kallas, the move highlights the need to strengthen Europe’s defence capabilities within NATO.
“I think it shows that we have to really strengthen the European pillar in NATO, and we have to really do more. The American troops are not in Europe only for protecting the European interests, but also American interest,” she added.
