Kallas: UK, 11 other countries back trade sanctions on Israeli settlements

09 September 2026 10:34

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas said the UK and 11 other countries had announced their support for trade sanctions targeting Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank.

“The UK and 11 other countries today announced their support for trade sanctions targeting illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank,” Kallas wrote on X, Caliber.Az reports.

She said all EU member states considered Israeli settlements in the West Bank illegal under international law and warned that Israel’s settlement expansion was undermining prospects for a viable two-state solution.

“All EU Member States agree that Israeli settlements in the West Bank are illegal under international law,” Kallas wrote, adding that “The Israeli Government’s settlement expansions in the West Bank are undermining the prospects for a viable two-State solution.”

Kallas also said the EU remained the largest donor of humanitarian assistance to Gaza and the West Bank and reaffirmed the bloc’s commitment to a comprehensive and lasting peace based on a two-state solution.

“We remain firmly committed to supporting a comprehensive, just and lasting peace based on the two-State solution, with two states living side-by-side in peace within secure and recognised borders,” she said.
