15 October 2023 17:29

Turkish Aerospace representative Erol Oguz has said production of Turkish reconnaissance and attack unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) Anka in Kazakhstan is planned to begin in 2024.

According to him, a more precise date cannot yet be given, since the parties are conducting preparatory work and the volume of investments is being calculated, inbusiness.kz reports.

“We set a goal not just to open production, but to transfer experience and technology so that in the future Kazakhstan can independently produce unmanned aerial vehicles,” the publication quotes Oguz.

Earlier, Kazakhstan Defence Ministry reported that a drone was tested in the south of the country. According to the department, the experimental military operation of the UAV will last until March 2024.

In May 2022, a memorandum on military-technical cooperation between Kazakhstan Engineering and Turkish Aerospace was signed in Ankara.

According to the document, an assembly and maintenance line for Anka attack UAVs will be organized in Kazakhstan. The Republic became the first foreign country where the production of these drones will be organized.

The UAV has a wingspan of 17.5 metres, a length of 8.6 metres, and a height of 3.2 metres. The weight of the device is 1.7 tonnes, the drone can carry up to 350 kg of cargo and stay with it in the air for up to 30 hours. Anka's cruising speed is about 200 km/h, it is capable of climbing to a height of 9,100 metres.
